That’s why U.Group was asked to help introduce the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI)—a $45 billion philanthropic endeavor established by Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg—to a global audience.

Beyond a powerful visual identity and messaging platform for the CZI brand, there was also a need to introduce the distinct initiatives under the CZI umbrella to unique audiences. It was important to the founders that the brand and communications capture their passion and vision, without overlapping their other very public contexts. Because this aspect of their life was so personal, it was critical the brand platform had the integrity to stand up to intense media coverage and exposure.


First, U.Group built a messaging platform to cover all the bases: warm, trustworthy, inspiring, and easy to understand. Then, the strategically-designed brand identity—from the gesture quality of the typography to the completeness represented by the circle—presented the global message of CZI as both broadly inspiring and intimately personal.

U.Group then developed the CZI website. With bold colors, a clean layout, and moving videography, the site showcases the passion and personal commitment that makes CZI such an unprecedented endeavor. Finally, U.Group turned to the individual programs: for the Primary School, creating a custom illustrated logo and design system that speaks to each child’s unique physical, emotional and mental well-being. For Biohub, U.Group created a brand identity and website that captures the energy and innovation of the lab itself.


The launch of CZI was a huge conceptual and material success that captured the attention of the world. The messaging, media, and platform instantly had millions engaging with it, and has grown exponentially since. With an actionable, scalable brand system and messaging platform CZI continues to hone its identity, and we are excited to see what’s next.
